Giving Thanks: Kate Miller

In preparation for my Thanksgiving day workshop at Capitol Hill Yoga, I am dedicating a post a day this November to honoring my many teachers on this yoga journey.
The first session I took at Willow Street Yoga Center was with the lovely Kate Miller. Each time I left her class, I felt energized and more in tune with myself. Kate’s sequences challenged me (and still do) in a wonderful way that I really enjoyed, and her years of experience teaching Anusara was a great help to me as I struggled with a back injury. Specifically, her teachings on the first principle of Anusara yoga, “Open to Grace,” helped me through the emotional and physical challenge of a chronic injury. Kate’s knowledge, coupled with her joyful and supportive presence, inspired me to go deeper. A few weeks into her class, I felt myself pulled towards the 100-hour Anusara Immersion program that she was teaching. I waited another year before applying to the Immersion, and I had a wonderful, expansive experience with Kate and her co-teacher, Moses Brown.
I am thankful to Kate for introducing me to the rich world of yoga, far beyond the poses on the mat. For challenging me to try new poses and to be gentle with myself when I didn’t immediately master them. For leading many a rockin’ asana practice. For her understanding and support after my back surgery. For being a warm and loving presence when I needed it, for challenging me when I needed it, and for knowing which I needed when.
Thank you, Kate!
I second that! Thank you, Kate!
